2018 Heart Valve Summit
Chicago, IL
The American College of Cardiology and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery are partnering to disseminate the latest advances in valvular heart disease (VHD). Renowned faculty will analyze current controversies, and provide insight into the possibilities of valvular care in the future. With an emphasis on practical decision-making, the Heart Valve Summitprovides cutting-edge findings; real-world implications; and through a case-based curriculum offers practical guidance on common, yet challenging scenarios. The course empowers the Heart Team by promoting best practices from colleagues in other specialties and demonstrating the collective expertise of the VHD care team in delivering high-quality patient care.
Valvular heart disease (VHD) affects more than 5 million adults in the United States. The management of VHD has been transformed during the past decade by advanced imaging technology and the emergence and rapid expansion of Transcatheter-based treatment options. Concurrently, a cadre of general clinical cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, non-invasive cardiac imagers, cardiothoracic surgeons, and other healthcare professionals have acquired deep expertise in valvular care and collectively represent an emerging subspecialty. The care of patients with advanced valvular disease often requires a multidisciplinary collaboration to engage in complex decision-making and treatment. In this time of rapid evolution, all members of the heart team need ongoing and frequent education to stay abreast of the accruing evidence and to learn from experts who are pioneering new techniques and can offer deep insight into contemporary clinical trials and treatment dilemmas.
