Mitral Valve Repair Center

at The Mount Sinai Hospital

The mitral valve is one of four valves in the heart that make sure blood flows in the right direction. Degenerative mitral valve disease is the most common cause of mitral regurgitation. An echocardiogram uses sound waves to help diagnose mitral valve disease.

Mitral valve repair is the recommended surgical therapy for all prolapsing degenerative mitral valves. All prolapsing valves are repairable while using minimally invasive surgical techniques. Mitral valve replacement should not be an option.
The Mitral Valve Repair Center at Mount Sinai offers patients the highest percentage of mitral valve repair available anywhere in the world. Our mitral valve repair rates (99%) and quality (<1% mortality) are national benchmarks.
Dr. David H. Adams and his team offer patients a greater than 99 percent repair rate for patients with degenerative mitral valve regurgitation, and sets national benchmarks in safety. Dr. Adams and his team have been at the forefront of developing novel devices and approaches to facilitate mitral valve repair over the past decade.
Our teaching library contains surgical video case studies, and over 150 video presentations recorded at educational conferences from around the world. Upcoming academic events include our live-surgery workshops and a listing of global conferences our team host or speak at.
